1/2/2010 REVISED Notice: No buyer for Baileywick Company was found. Our 29 years of charter sailboat management out of Solomons came to an end December 1, 2009. The Rainbow 24 [Pot] was sold to a local buyer for private use. The Niagara 35 [Segel] was sold to a former timesharer and will be in the Solomons area over the winter. The Bailey home on Leasons Cove has been sold and the new owners took ownership on November 30, 2009. It is wonderful that they are also sailors and a 47' Alden will take Segel's place at the dock. All Baileywick customers have had their deposits returned. We are very sorry our loyal customers have had to find alternate sailing solutions. In spite of being profitable over the years, Baileywick has been more of a club of friends than a cut throat business. We will miss all of you!  The Baileys have moved to Emerald Heights, a continuing care retirement community in Redmond Washington and took residence on 12/30/2009. Why Washington State?  John was born and raised in Seattle, graduated from the University of Washington, son and family now live only 8 miles away, and daughter and family are only 4 hours drive away in Oregon. This website is being maintained for a while for reference purposes.

Captain John and Donna Bailey have operated a sailboat bareboat charter business since 1980. Our fleet grew to eight yachts during the late 80's, but is now at a more comfortable level of two boats located at our home dock in the Solomons, Maryland area. We also owned and managed Solomons Marine Towing [dba Sea Tow Solomons (1989-1994) and dba TowBoatUS Solomons (1995-2001)], a marine assistance and salvage firm. During that time the firm performed nearly 4,000 marine assists and salvages. That corporation was sold January 1, 2002, and the Baileys no longer have that excitement in their lives.

Besides our traditional bareboat charter program, we offer a significantly better value in our timeshare lease arrangement for those sailors who want to sail the Chesapeake for 14 or more days per season without the expense or hassle of ownership. The timeshare lease cost on a per day basis is a small fraction of the ownership cost which usually exceeds $800 per day of actual use for a comparable yacht. Boat/Weather Conditions: A live internet DockVideo link of the Baileywick floating dock on Leasons Cove near Solomons shows the status of the fleet. Note the flag at the end of the dock for wind conditions in the protected cove. The live Video Internet Camera requires use of Internet Explorer and its OCX plugin to view. The plugin will download if needed by answering yes. The video feed is on 24 hrs daily so at night only dock lights show.

Segel [Niagara 35] and Pot of Gold [Rainbow 24]

Segel and Pot of Gold at Baileywick private floating dock in protected Leasons Cove, near Solomons. Leaving and returning are very easy regardless of weather conditions. Shoreside facilities include bathroom with shower.
