1/2/2010 REVISED
Notice:No buyer for Baileywick Company
was found. Our 29 years of charter sailboat management out
of Solomons came to an end December 1, 2009. The Rainbow 24
[Pot] was sold to a local buyer for private use.
The Niagara 35 [Segel] was sold to
a former timesharer and will be in the Solomons area over
the winter. The Bailey home on Leasons Cove has
been sold and the new owners took ownership on November 30,
2009. It is wonderful that they are also sailors and a 47'
Alden will take Segel's place at the dock. All Baileywick
customers have had their deposits returned. We are very
sorry our loyal customers have had to find alternate sailing
solutions. In spite of being profitable over the years,
Baileywick has been more of a club of friends than a cut
throat business. We will miss all of you! The Baileys
have moved to Emerald Heights, a continuing care retirement
community in Redmond Washington and took residence on
12/30/2009. Why Washington State? John was born and
raised in Seattle, graduated from the University of
Washington, son and family now live only 8 miles away, and
daughter and family are only 4 hours drive away in Oregon.
This website is being maintained for a while for reference
purposes.

As of 10/2/2009 Pot is no longer in the
Baileywick fleet but will still be seen in the Solomons area with new owners.
This handsome masthead sloop, designed
by Sparkman and Stephens, is an excellent
day sailor. Because of her fin keel,
capsizing is not a concern as is with many
centerboard day sailor designs. Stability and safe sailing are the Rainbow's
strong points! Her
equipment includes a roller furling genoa jib, mainsail,
bimini for shaded cockpit, port-a-potty, running lights, VHF marine
radio, Garmin GPS plotter, and swim platform/ladder. No
water system or cooking facilities are
installed. However, for those that are
used to camping, the Rainbow can be
cruised in limited comfort as she has a cuddy cabin that gives
sleeping space for two. A portable stove
can be used and water can be brought in jugs for
cruising.
Pot of Gold
Pot can comfortably sail with a crew of four or more
Pot often sails singlehanded
Bimini and roller furling genoa
Garmin GPS for safe navigating
Pot has a 150 percent roller furling genoa. She sails very well in 15 knot or more winds on just the genoa. Note the bimini for shade protection, outboard motor, and swim platform with ladder.
This crew of six was happy. The cockpit is quite large. A food cooler and other bags can be stowed in the cuddy cabin to keep the cockpit for crew.
With the tiller tamer and outboard motor Pot is a joy to sail with only the skipper onboard.
This is probably the only Rainbow you will see with protection from the sun. The bimini works well whether sailing or motoring. The roller furling 150 percent genoa is all handled from the cockpit and has has plenty of power to just sail on only the genoa when desired
The GPS lets you know your speed, where you are, and ensures finding your way back to Baileywick up Solomon's Mill Creek to Leasons Cove. The cuddy cabin allows storage of gear and if venturesome, limited cruising ability.
